If your computer is lagging, experiencing unexpected slowdowns, or hanging entirely, it can severely impact your productivity. Follow these troubleshooting steps to identify the bottleneck and speed up your system.
1. Check Task Manager for Resource Hogs: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, check the Processes tab, and identify applications consuming 100% of your CPU, memory, or disk. End unnecessary tasks.
2. Manage Startup Programs: Disable resource-heavy programs from launching automatically upon boot by checking your startup settings.
3. Scan for Malware & Viruses: Run a full system scan using your trusted antivirus software to ensure malicious background processes aren’t dragging down system performance.
4. Check Free Storage Space: Ensure your primary boot drive has at least 10% to 15% free space available so the operating system has enough room for virtual memory swap files.
System still sluggish? It might be time for a hardware upgrade like an SSD or RAM expansion.
